30 YEARS OF INDEPENDENT JOURNALISM: DEMOCRACY NOW!

This year marks 30 years since the launch of Democracy Now!, the daily global news hour that has become one of the world’s leading independent news broadcasts.

From war and climate change to human rights and democracy movements, Democracy Now! is known for amplifying voices often left out of mainstream media. The program consistently highlights issues affecting Indigenous peoples around the world, providing a platform for communities to speak for themselves and share their stories directly with a global audience.

Launched in 1996 on just nine radio stations, Democracy Now! has grown into a worldwide media force, now seen and heard on more than 1,500 radio and television stations across the globe. Hosted by award-winning journalists Amy Goodman and Juan González, the program delivers breaking headlines and in-depth interviews with people on the front lines of the world’s most pressing issues.

Here in Australia, Ngaarda TV is proud to be the only television station in the country airing Democracy Now! every weeknight at 11pm — just one hour after its live broadcast in the United States — bringing this global conversation directly to local audiences.

As Democracy Now! celebrates three decades on air, its mission remains as urgent as ever: to provide independent, fearless journalism and to elevate voices that matter.

Here’s to 30 years of truth-telling — and many more to come.
