CUZZ CONGRESS CHRYSLER VALIANT TRANSFORMED BY ABORIGINAL STUDENTS

Aboriginal students have restored an ancient 1960s Chrysler Valiant that once featured in an Aboriginal superhero TV series highlighting health.

17-year-old Jadikiyah Evans is from the Garawa tribe and says he was excited to work on this project as he is studying automotive skills.

“It’s special, it was in an old film about a superhero. We decided to make that car new again so it can be noticed in public.”

Charles Darwin University Automotive lecturer, Shane Gaghan says that the students know the car better than him.

“It’s so good to see them smiling and they are getting really deep in it now. They are growing in every skill they got. They have approached me for an apprenticeship. Hopefully, within the next 12 months, we will be sliding them into jobs.”

“What really hurts me is when they are importing people to be apprentices for their companies from different states and different countries - why are you doing that when we have skilled kids here?
