A new television series filmed in the Kimberley town of Derby and partly funded by the state government will air soon.

The 12-episode Stan series Population 11 will premiere on 14 March.

The Cook government contributed $1.9 million dollars towards production via  Screenwest, Lotterywest and the Western Australian Regional Screen Fund.

The series is about a man who goes missing from a small Australian outback town.

Population 11 Producer Bridget Callow-Wright says she loved filming in Derby because of the landscape, and because local people were involved in the production.

“We worked very closely with our local TOs,” Ms Callow-Wright said.

“We made contact with them very initially to ask permission to come and even do our scouting, to come and look at places, and then chatting to them about what we’d like to do, and then got permission to come back and film.”
