Deal secures mining future while strengthening cultural ties
Global Lithium Resources has signed a Native Title Mining Agreement with the Kakarra Part B Native Title Group, paving the way for development of its Manna lithium project in Western Australia.
The agreement allows the project to advance while embedding economic opportunities and cultural benefits for Traditional Owners.
Strong cultural engagement
Traditional Owner Travis Tucker said the agreement reflects meaningful consultation and a deeper understanding between parties.
“Elders felt like this is probably one of the better, best agreements because of just the engagement with these guys, and being open really,” he said.
“I took them out to show them what a mill is, what a goal is, and gave them a visual understanding of the mining process before it gets up. That broke down a lot of barriers.”
Certainty for community and company
Global Lithium Non-Executive Chair Richard O’Shannassy said the signing provided a framework for collaboration and mutual benefit.
“The agreement gives us and the native title group certainty and a good framework to advance the development and operations at Manna,” he said.
“It ensures mutual benefits for native title holders, Traditional Owners, and our shareholders. The framework makes clear the responsibilities of all parties as we move into mining operations.”
Lithium industry growth
The Manna project, located east of Kalgoorlie, is one of several lithium developments in Western Australia responding to global demand for battery minerals. With the Native Title Agreement now finalised, Global Lithium is positioned to progress the project with support from the Kakarra group.
