GRANDMOTHER CAMPAIGNS FOR TAKE DOWN OF VIDEO BY SELF DESCRIBED COMEDIAN

A Port Hedland grandmother is calling for action against a social media video that mocks the disappearance of the missing five-year-old Northern Territory girl.

Nyamal woman Karen Beazley says she came across the video while following updates about the missing child and was left shocked by what she saw.

The video jokes about the circumstances surrounding the child’s disappearance.

Ms Beazley says the content crossed a line, particularly while the girl’s family and community continue to search for answers.

“How can you laugh about a human being that’s gone missing?” she said.

She says she tried to report the video to authorities and media outlets, describing her reaction as anger and distress.

“I was just shaking with anger… I wanted something done,” she said.

Ms Beazley is now calling for the creator to be held accountable and for the video to be taken down.

“That’s somebody’s child, somebody’s grandchild… you don’t go doing that sort of stuff,” she said.

The content creator, Alex Williamson posting as Loose Aussie, who describes himself as a comedian, appears in the video pretending to be the father of Sharon Granites having a phone call with the man suspected of abducting Sharon, 47-year-old Jefferson Lewis, and inviting him around to the house to ‘get on the gas’.

Ms Beazley’s thoughts expressed to Ngaarda Media about Williamson are dignified, and her message remains focused on the child and her family.

“My heart goes out to them… we all hope she comes home safe,” she said.

The search is in its 5th day, with WA Police joining Defence personnel, Aboriginal corporations, organisations, politicians, community volunteers and everyday residents searching the Alice Springs area.
