The Pilbara’s Marble Bar Primary School had a big win at this year’s Australian Education Awards, held on Friday.

The school took home the award for Best First Nations Education Program for its work in virtual reality.

Nyamal Elders, local children and staff members have worked together to create Nyamal Virtual Worlds.

The program integrates two-way science learning and teaches design and technology skills.

Principal Shane Wilson said the win was a joyful moment for the school community.

“The key goal of the Marble Bar virtual world is to preserve and showcase our Nyamal culture and language for prosperity, to not only our current students and the broader community, but also our future generations.”
