MOTHER PLEADS FOR HELP TO STAY BY DAUGHTER’S SIDE AFTER ROEBOURNE CRASH
A Queensland mother is asking for support as her daughter recovers from life-threatening injuries in a Perth hospital after a devastating crash near Roebourne last month.
Michelle Leslie’s daughter, Jasmine (Jaz), was critically injured in a collision on the North West Coastal Highway on Friday, May 23. The crash claimed the lives of two drivers and left others hospitalised.
According to WA Police, a white Toyota Hilux and a white Toyota Prado collided at approximately 3:25 pm.
Michelle has travelled from Queensland to Western Australia to be with her daughter, who remains in hospital with multiple serious injuries, including fractures in her collarbone, ribs on both sides, pelvis and spleen.
“She has fractures in her collarbone, spleen, ribs on both sides, and a broken pelvis,” Michelle said in an interview with Ngaarda Media.
“Just a couple of little cuts and whatnot that are still healing.”
Her daughter is expected to remain in the hospital for at least eight more weeks before she can be discharged to continue her recovery at home in Queensland.
Ms Michelle is currently staying in a hotel near the hospital to be close to her daughter and says ongoing support is needed to help cover basic costs.
The family has launched a GoFundMe page to raise funds for accommodation, transport, and ongoing care during this period.
Ms Michelle says the donations have already made it possible for her to remain in Perth with her daughter, and any further contributions would be a lifeline.
“It’s been incredibly hard, but I’m grateful for every single person who has helped so far,” she said.
“If anyone can keep supporting, it’ll mean the world to us.”
Michelle is also calling for urgent road safety upgrades in the region.
“The roads there do need upgrading,” she said. “They need double lanes because there have been a lot of fatalities, which is really sad… It’s these country towns, these outback towns, that need the help the most.”
She praised the local community, including media outlets for keeping attention on the issue.
“All we’ve got is one another,” she added. “We need all the support we can get.”
