NEW ASSISTANCE FOR INDIGENOUS BUSINESSES IN KARRATHA

The Karratha and Districts Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KDCCI) has appointed its first ever Indigenous Engagement Officer.

Barkindji man Kevin Whyman said he’s looking forward to working on Ngarluma country.

“I’m going to be a support to the Indigenous businesses around Karratha in the Ngarluma country,” he said.

“My roles is to make sure they get the right services.”

“I want [the community] to tell me what’s best for their business and how I can be the best support for them.”

KDCCI CEO Tanya Dodd said Mr Whyman will offer one-on-one support to Indigenous businesses.

“I found it vitally important to bring in an Indigenous Engagement Officer, because we needed to take the Pilbara Indigenous Business Network project to the next level, and we can’t do that with our small team,” she said.

“We need someone that’s going to be there doing the one-on-one support, and that’s what it’s all about.”
