PILBARA MAN RAISES MENTAL HEALTH FUNDS WITH 441-KILOMETRE CHALLENGE

BY ASAD KHAN

Alexander Scott, a resident of the Pilbara, has completed a remarkable feat to raise awareness and funds for mental health support. Setting himself the task of running 21 kilometres a day for 21 consecutive days, Scott covered a total distance of 441 kilometres in support of Beyond Blue.

Describing the challenge as both physically brutal and emotionally exhausting, Scott said the experience pushed him to his limits.

Despite the toll, he remained focused on the goal of promoting mental health awareness and encouraging others to speak up and seek help.

“It’s been really positive,” he said.

“I think everyone I’ve spoken to, all the comments— the comments on the donation page are all positive. I feel like everyone’s happy and more proud of it than I am right now. I feel kind of numb to what I’ve done, but yeah, it’s all been positive. It’s been overwhelming support.”

His efforts have been widely embraced by the community, with donations continuing to grow. He hopes the challenge will spark more open conversations around mental health, particularly in regional and remote communities.

Beyond Blue is one of Australia’s leading mental health organisations, providing support to people experiencing anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts.
