ROWAN'S WALK EXPANDS ACROSS THE PILBARA

On August 11th, Hedland local Rowan Dann will be embarking on his 20 kilometer “Rowan’s Walk” between Port Hedland and South Hedland to raise awareness for mental health.

Now in its fourth year, Rowan’s influence is growing with similar walks announced in Roebourne and Newman for the first time.

Rowan’s mother, Revena told Ngaarda Breakfast she believes her son’s efforts and influence are growing.

“Absolutely. Absolutely. The reality is it is a real epidemic and it affects people from all walks of life. And I guess Rowan just wants to give that hope back to the people and show them that they are amazing that to

show them that they are worth fighting for and to show them that there is help out there.”

Rowan started the walk following the tragic death of his aunty.

Rowan’s Walk begins at 6 am at the Redbank Salt Bridge in Port Hedland, Radio Hill in Newman, and Roebourne (location to be announced).

Yaandina’s Paolo Gambi is organising the Roebourne walk to raise awareness. “We thought it would be good to get the community involved in suicide awareness and prevention, not just for Roebourne but for the Pilbara.

The walk will start at the Old Library in Roebourne’s Sholl Street on Wednesday the 11th of August. There will be a bus to pick people up from Andover Park at 7 am.
