Ngarluma filmmaker Tyson Mowarin filmed the mesmerising process of a painting by Yindjibarndi Elder and artist Allery Sandy in the new documentary Marni.

Marni was filmed over three weeks in Ieramagadu, and is a long-form documentary that features the landscapes of Pilbara and a beautiful soundtrack.

Tyson was live in the studio on Monday speaking with Eliza Kloser about the film which features his Nanna creating an artwork piece.

“It’s about my grandmother Allery Sandy, Yindjibarndi Elder from Roebourne here,” he said.

“I’ve always been inspired by her artwork, she’s an artist.

“We documented the very first dot on her art piece to the last one,” he said.

Marni translates to 'marking' in Yindjibarndi, and Allery speaks in Yindjibarndi language offering a unique view on our nation and culture.

“Along the way she’s telling stories and singing songs,” he said.
