A former Wickham Wolves junior footy player has been drafted to play for the Geelong Cats in the AFL.

20-year-old Lawson Humphries, who grew up in the Kimberley and Pilbara, was selection number 63 in the national draft.

Mr Humphries has played for Swan Districts in the WAFL.

He told Ngaarda Media he’d been playing footy since he was three years old.

“My dad coached footy everywhere we went, so up in Jabiru and Broome and in Wickham as well, so I felt like I was always around footy clubs when I was little, and I guess that just transferred my love for footy and the game, and being the best player I can,” Mr Humphries said.
