In the Perth Metropolitan area, two women’s AFL teams are left without a competition to play in this season.
Social justice advocate Megan Krakouer said Koongamia and Queens Park were to be part of the Metropolitan Football League’s four team competition that folded when the other two teams withdrew from the competition.
They were refused entry to the other weekend league that runs women’s games in Perth, the Perth Football League.
“Those two teams, they come from lower socioeconomic backgrounds,” Ms Krakouer said. “There are 60 to 70 players. Of that, 96 per cent are Aboriginal.”
Perth Football League has been contacted for comment.
