Three Yindjibarndi men from the Pilbara have visited wind farms in the Philippines to investigate opportunities for renewable energy back home on their ngurra.

The Yindjibarndi Aboriginal Corporations partnered with ACEN Renewables earlier this year to form the Yindjibarndi Energy Corporation.

They aim to develop up to three gigawatts of renewable capacity on Yindjibarndi country.

Yindjibarndi Aboriginal Corporation CEO Michael Woodley said he was impressed by the ACEN facilities he’d seen in the Philippines.

“What they’re doing is to help reduce their fossil fuel imports into the area, and to decarbonise the area as much as they can, which is something the whole world is encouraging every nation to do,” he said.
