Fitzroy Crossing residents who worked on the construction of the new Fitzroy River bridge are proud of their work on the project.

The new bridge was officially opened last weekend, six months ahead of schedule.

It has reconnected the West Kimberley and East Kimberley after the old bridge was damaged in January’s extreme flooding.

Fitzroy Crossing resident  Japarti Joseph Nugget worked as an Operator on the bridge construction.

He said the bridge construction had been great for local employment in Fitzroy Crossing.

“Most of these young people never held a job,” he said. It’s great that giving back to the community also allows them to further their career.’’
