Protesters will rally today in Perth to protest the New Zealand government’s attacks on the rights of Maori people.

The country’s new coalition government plan to review the nation’s founding document, the Treaty of Waitangi.

They have also announced plans to abolish the Maori Health Authority and reduce the prevalence of Maori language in government settings.

Event organiser and Haka for Life founder Leon Ruri says the event is an opportunity for the Maori people to come together.

“We can’t remain silent on this matter,” he said.

“We’ve got to come together in love, be able to protest, be able to rally, but to also to show the community of Australia, particularly of Perth, our culture.”

The event will be held at Forrest Place at 3 pm.
