Sunshine Coast artist Chris Cobb says 2026 has become a turning point in his music career, with a sold-out hometown show, major live opportunities and his debut album now on the way.

Cobb recently performed to a sold-out crowd at The Nook, describing the show as a special moment in the place where his Australian music story began.

The Papua New Guinea-born musician said the Sunshine Coast was the first place he settled after moving to Australia and becoming serious about music.

“To have a sold-out show right in Sunny Coast, home ground, my perfect kind of space, intimate setting, just meant a lot to me,” Cobb said.

“It was a very wholesome feeling when I walked out.”

His debut album, More Questions Than Answers, is due to be released on July 31.

Cobb said the album may surprise listeners who know him best for his big live performances and powerful voice.

He said the record shows a softer and more reflective side of his music.

“It could be a bit of a surprise package,” he said.

“There is definitely the heart and soul of Chris Cobb and that beautiful magic still in that album, maybe just delivered in a different way.

“And that is why we call it More Questions Than Answers.”

WA TOUR HIGH ON COBB’S BUCKET LIST

Cobb said he hopes More Questions Than Answers will reach as many listeners as possible, including audiences in Western Australia.

He said touring WA remains high on his list.

“I endeavour to cross over to the parts of Western Australia and that is on my bucket list,” he said.

“I hope that I can cross over sooner than later.”

GOOD ENERGY, COLLABORATIONS KEY

The album includes a collaboration with Australian country music artist James Blundell and producer Dan Frizza.

Cobb said working with Blundell and Frizza was initially a daunting thought, because of their different styles and backgrounds.

But he said the connection came naturally once the three sat down together over coffee.

“It was beautiful Papua New Guinea and coffee. Everything just fell into place,” he said.

“There was harmony. There was good energy.”

BLUNDELL, COBB SHARE PNG MEMORIES

Cobb and Blundell also share a connection to Papua New Guinea’s Morobe region, where Blundell spent time in his younger years before his Australian music career took off.

Cobb said memories of the region helped shape the feeling of the record.

He said the music carries images of Morobe’s rain, greenery, people and stories.

“That was in our minds when we poured our voices and our music into that record,” he said.

The album also features the track Linga, which Cobb described as one of his personal favourites.

He said the song became a surprise standout during the recording process.

“We didn’t really think that song was going to be a special one in the album,” he said.

“It kind of gravitated and took its own path.”

Cobb first gained national attention after receiving a four-chair turn on The Voice Australia.

He said the experience opened doors to major stages, including Tamworth, and he is now preparing for more live shows, including Gympie Music Muster and a planned Papua New Guinea tour next year.

But Cobb said his main goal has stayed the same.

“The one big dream that I’ve always had was to connect to as many people as I can by sharing my voice and my energy,” he said.

“I feel like the music that I have in my heart is something that can heal people, inspire people, motivate people and make them feel a sense of happiness.”

Cobb is encouraging listeners to pre-order the album before its release, with hopes it can make a strong debut on the ARIA charts.
